The World Health Organisation (WHO) has in a guideline issued that children under the age of five should spend no more than one hour of ‘sedentary screen time’ if at all.
The United Nations Agency has attributed inactivity to being a leading risk factor for mortality and obesity globally. Four children between the age of 1 – 4, at least three hours should be spent engaging in physical activities spread throughout the day and all screens should be avoided.
As childhood is the period for rapid physical and cognitive development which lifestyle habits are formed, it is important for children as it sets the tone for the rest of thier lives.
The W.H.O noted that childhood obesity had increased 10 times over within the last 40 years which lead. Obesity is linked to diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and in worse cases, cancer.
