World number three, Alexander Zverev continued his awful start to the season by crashing out of the second round of the Barcelona Open.

The 22-year old German made a late entry into the tournament by taking a wild card as he looked to improve on his disappointing start to the season.

He, however, lost to lucky loser Nicolas Jarry in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 6-7 (5/7). Zverev was a double break down in the third set before staging a remarkable recovery to earn a match point at 6-5 but he squandered the chance and ended up losing the match.

The win over Zverev was Nicolas Jarry’s biggest win of his career and the world number 81 will face either Fernando Verdasco or Grigor Dimitrov in the third round.
