Simona Halep has ruled herself out of the ongoing Stuttgart Open due to injury.
The 27-year-old sustained a hip injury while playing for her country in the Fed Cup against France on Sunday.
Halep held on to earn a win over Caroline Garcia but had to withdraw due to the soreness of her hip.
The former world number one is now in a race against time to be fit for the Madrid and Rome Masters taken place next month as well as defending her French Open title.
Halep has disclosed that her period of rehabilitation will also be to get rest mentally and physically as she intends to wrestle the world number one spot from Naomi Osaka as well as win the big titles in months to come.
