The discussions between the military and protest leaders in Sudan are underway, as the nation seeks to address the issue of transfer of power back to the civilians.
This was revealed on Saturday by the leader of Alliance for Freedom and Change (ALC).
“We have clarified our main request, which is the transfer of power to civilian authorities,” Siddiq Youssef, an LAC official, told public television after a meeting with the ruling Transitional Military Council.
“This is the main demand of the people’s movement (…) We have agreed to continue negotiations to reach a solution that satisfies both parties, so that the transfer of power can take place peacefully,” Youssef said. The LAC brings together several political parties and civil society groups that are leading the protest.
It is recalled that since overthrowing the reign of president Omar Al-Bashir on April 11, the country has since been in the coffers of the military.
The anti-government protests however continued as the nation wouldn’t have its authorities being security operatives.
The protesters have also given the military a timetable of two to three weeks.
Increasing pressure from the international community would coerce the military to give in to their demands.
