Nigeria’s House of Representatives has urged the Ministry of Finance and the Accountant General of the Federation to ensure full releases of budgetary allocation  to bodies which are on frontline charge.

The lawmakers, however, condemned the non-implementation of the 2018 Appropriation Act with regard to the law on statutory transfers.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, the Universal Basic Education, UBE, the judiciary, and the National Assembly are among other bodies captured in the annual Appropriation Act under statutory transfers.

The first alteration of the Constitution in 2010 stipulated that the amount standing to the credit of these agencies or arms of government be paid directly to such bodies, but this has not been the case.

The House directed its leadership to ensure that the agencies receive their full allocations in the 2018 Appropriation Act.

In another motion, the House urged the National Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials for persons displaced by thunderstorm in Plateau State.

The House mandated its Committee on Disaster Management to ensure compliance with the resolution.
