Manchester United are set to appoint a technical director who will work alongside manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Club officials are in discussions with a number of candidates for the role, with Solskjaer also involved in the discussions, though the Norwegian has disclosed that he will not have a final say on who the technical director will be.
It remains uncertain when the appointment will be made but it is likely to be before the commencement of the 2019/2020 season in August.
The technical director will be expected to focus on strengthening the first team squad and provide support for the management team.
He will also be tasked with shaping a long-term recruitment strategy of integrating the club’s academy.
Manchester United are also in talks with Solskjaer’s coaching staff Mike Phelan, Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna to seal new contracts for the trio as Solskjaer’s backroom staff as a permanent manager.
