The Kenyan government is out against betting companies operating in the country, citing the adverse effects on the youth as well as reckless spending incurred.
This was disclosed by the Interior Minister, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, who said that the government will be overhauling the betting industry.
He called for changes in the betting and licensing regulations, ordering their control boards to oversee and enforce compliance with taxes and other statutory laws.
“To show that we are serious, all betting licenses in the country stand suspended effective July 1, 2019 unless the holders pay all their taxes,” said Dr. Fred Matiang’i.
This order comes after the Ugandan president banned betting companies in the country for the bad effect betting is having on the youth.
