A woman, Tamara Lanier is suing Harvard over the possession and monetization of what is believed to be the earliest photos of American slaves.

She claims to be a descent of the lady in the photograph. The photos were taken in 1850 by a Harvard University professor, which were used in promoting racist beliefs.

The picture showed an African man and his daughter, both stripped naked and taken from different angles.

Tamara is suing Havard on accusations of monetization of the images after ignoring her requests to “stop licensing the pictures for the university’s profit” and misrepresenting her ancestors.
