Pope Francis once again plans to visit the world’s youngest country, South Sudan to encourage the ongoing peace process in the nation.
It is recalled that his previous trip to the nation in 2017 was cancelled due to the ongoing civil war back then.
A Vatican statement read that the pope “expressed the wish to ascertain the conditions for a possible visit to South Sudan”
It added that Pope Francis aims to make the trip significant as “a sign of closeness to the population and of encouragement for the peace process”
South Sudan gained its Independence in 2011, and descended into their first civil war in 2013, with disputes emerging from ethnic backgrounds.
