The Senate on Tuesday (today) passed the new minimum wage bill and approved
₦30,000 as the minimum wage for workers.
The Minimum Wage Act amendment bill which recommends ₦30,000 naira as wage to be paid workers on Tuesday passed third reading in the Senate.
The amendment bill was passed after the acting chairman of the ad-hoc committee, Senator Francis Alimekhena presented the report of the Committee which also recommends readjusting the revenue sharing formula to make it easier for states to pay the approved amount.
The Adhoc committee also recommended a fine of ₦75,000 for organisations that do not keep a record of their employees.
Most of the Lawmakers hailed the passage of the amendment bill saying it would reduce the frequency of industrial actions in the country
While others suggested that the tripartite committee on the minimum wage set up by the federal government meet from time to time to review the salary package.
They also urged the workers to respond to this increase with more hard work and dedication.
