Juventus go 16 points clear of second placed Napoli

Italian giants, Juventus boosted their chance of retaining the Serie A title with a victory over second-placed Napoli, giving them a 16-point advantage.

Both clubs were reduced to 10 men in the game. Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret was shown a straight red card for what seemed to be a controversial foul on Cristiano Ronaldo, Miralem Pjanic stepped up and scored from the resulting free-kick but later got dismissed for a deliberate handball.

Emre Can headed a second, and Juve appeared to be cruising to victory until Jose Callejon pulled a goal back for Napoli from a brilliant cross into the box by Lorenzo Insigne.

A spot-kick was later awarded six minutes from time after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) spotted that Fabian Ruiz’s cutback hit Alex Sandro on the arm, although the Juventus defender knew little about it and Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne missed a late penalty.

The Italian Champions have won the title for the last seven seasons and are looking to win it again with just 12 games remaining.
