The All Progressives Congress, APc, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have been trading words in Osun East senatorial district of Osun State, over an alleged importation of firearms, and recruitment of political thugs for the purpose of election.
A community, Iwara Ijesa in Atakumosa East Local Government experienced a series of attacks over the weekend by some suspected political thugs.
A visit to Iwara showed that people of the community are in palpable fear, as a result of gun attacks.
An eleven-year-old girl was shot on Thursday by suspected political thugs. The girl who was still receiving treatment at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Wesley Guild, Ilesa, was said to be responding to treatment.
A vehicle was also burnt in front of the police station in the town.
Reacting to these attacks, the PDP senatorial candidate, Adenigba Fadahunsi accused the APC senatorial candidate in the zone, Israel Famurewa of leading armed thugs with his official vehicle to terrorise people and intimidate them into submission.
The APC candidate also accused the PDP candidate of importing firearms into the zone, with the aim of intimidating the electorate.
The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force promised to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.
