2019 elections: US gives reason why it is concerned about what happens in Nigeria

The United States of America has reiterated its concern for Democracy in Nigeria following the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen.

It earlier issued a statement calling for the issues surrounding the situation to be resolved as swift as possible.

“We urge that the issues raised by this decision be resolved swiftly and peacefully in accordance with due process, full respect for the rule of law, and the spirit of the Constitution of Nigeria,” the US embassy in Nigeria had said in its statement.

However, a presidential aide, Garba Shehu, via a statement called on the United States of America and other foreign countries who have spoken concerning the CJN’s suspension to mind their business and not interfare in Nigeria’s polity.

The US have now stated why it is concerned about what goes on in Nigeria as the country approaches its 2019 general elections.

US made this known through the Twitter handle of the its Embassy:

“Why does the United States support Nigeria’s #democracy?” it asked.

“Because what happens in Nigeria will affect the world … and it depends on you. It depends on every Nigerian. – Ambassador W. Stuart Symington.”
