Meng Wanzhou, the CFO of Huawei arrested since December 1 on grounds of evading sanctions between 2009 and 2014 using Skycom, a Huawei Subsidiary as a front, which she and the company have denied, is set to be extradited on of before the 30th of January.
After her arraignment, citizens of Canda have been arrested on charges of spying, something Chinese officials have claimed is not an act of vendetta on Wanzhou’s case. Other cases have also be recorded in a similar fashion.
The situation gets messier as the Chairman of Huawei, Liang Hua has announced at the ongoing Davos that the company may be pulling out of some international markets, specifically the U.S and U.K if it continues to face restrictions.
The U.S has currently banned the company from bidding for government contracts, whilst BT, a British firm recently started removing Huawei equipment from a system being developed for the UK’s emergency services.
