Nigeria’s House of Representatives says it has uncovered irreconcilable figures in the budget estimates of the ministries, department, and agencies of government.

This came to the fore at the opening of debate on the general principles of the 8.83 trillion naira 2019 budget submitted by President Muhamadu Buhari at plenary.

The discrepancies were noted first by the member representing Shiroro/Rafi Federal Constituency of Niger State, Chika Adamu Chika noted that figures in the MDA’s budget did not tally with the total amount earmarked as total budget for the agencies.

The Speaker, Yakubu Dogara mandated the relevant committee to interface with the Minister of Finance, Zanaib Ahmed, to fine-tune the budget figures before further action on it.

In another development, the bill to provide a legal framework for the establishment of National Resources Regulatory Commission charged with the responsibility of managing the 60 per cent of the national resources fund, passed into committee stage for public input.

The House also considered and passed the conference committee report on a bill to enact the Nigerian Water Ways Bill.
The bill is to provide for the management and development of the Nigerian inland waterways and also to promote private sector participation.
