FOR PRESIDENT OF SUDAN, AL BASHIR TO FACE ICC

Despite weeks of violent protests calling for the resignation of Sudan’s President over the worsening economic crisis, President Omar al-Bashir said on Monday that he would not step down saying ”The government does not change through demonstrations.”

According to Amnesty International, at least forty people have died during the demonstrations, which began on December 19 last year.

On Sunday, fresh protests broke out in Khartoum North.

Demonstrators set tires on fire and chanted for Bashir to go, before being sprayed with tear gas by security forces.

This period of protests is the most sustained challenge to Bashir’s nearly 30-year rule.
