Nigerians have again been reminded of the ills associated with fake news and giving out official information that could be injurious to national security.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Burutai, who made this reminder at Asaba, Delta State, during the official inauguration of the headquarters of 63 Brigade and flag-off ceremony of Exercise Egwueke (python dance 3), said the military will spare no effort to save the country from the claws of unpatriotic elements fighting to pull it down.
The Chief of Army Staff, through his representative, Major General Jamil Sarham, General Officer Commanding 6 Division Port Harcourt, said the essence of Exercise Egwueke 3 is to consolidate on the successes of exercise “Crocodile Smile 3” which he said drastically reduced illegal oil bunkering, pipeline vandalism, and kidnapping in the region.
Inaugurating the headquarters of the 63 Brigade with Col. Habiba Baba Manu as its pioneer Brigade Commander, General Buratai called on the troops to maintain the momentum of their operations, display professionalism in the discharge of their duties, and avoid allowing criminal elements to infiltrate their ranks.
He said the secrets act of 1962, section 1, subsection 3 of the act stipulates laws guiding reporting issues bordering on national security.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa promised to provide logistics and financial support for the new 63 Brigade headquarters and thanked the military and its sister agencies for maintaining peace in the region.
