A female candidate to the House of Representatives on the  Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN), Mrs Maria Ude-Nwachi, has promised qualitative and effective representation to her constituents, if elected in 2019.

Ude-Nwachi, representing Afikpo North-East State Constituency in the Ebonyi House of Assembly, gave the promise in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abakaliki.

Ude-Nwachi said that the primary concern by people seeking political power should be how to use such position to enhance good governance and better the living condition of the ordinary people.

According to her, political power should not be for personal enrichment but to offer service to ensure quality life for the people.

She explained that she had spent over ₦150 million of her personal money in providing infrastructure and empowerment for her constituents.

Ude-Nwachi assured that she could do more if given the mandate to represent the people in the House of Representatives.

The female legislator, the only opposition member in the 24-member Ebonyi House of Assembly, expressed confidence that her party would win the House of Representatives seat for the Afikpo North /Afikpo South Federal Constituency.

I have the support and backing of my people, which is very essential. For instance, in 2015, I won on the platform of the People’s Progressives Alliance (PPA),even when nobody believed that i was  going to win the election.

She commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its preparations for the 2019 general elections.

She, however, called on the commission to ensure that political parties and candidates were provided with level playing field to contest in the election.

“Let those who will emerge winners emerge in a free, fair, transparent and credible election.

“INEC should stick to its promise of conducting seamless polls and ensure that the outcome of the 2019 elections in Ebonyi represents the will of the electorate.”
