Ijaw Leaders Insist On Restructuring, Demilitarization Of Niger Delta

If there is one thing leaders of the Niger Delta region of Nigeria have constantly advocated for it is the restructuring of the country and the call to demilitarize the region.

These resolutions were again echoed on Monday at the conference of Ijaw Traditional Rulers and Elders in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Barely six weeks to the presidential and National Assembly elections in the country, Ijaw leaders met to reiterate their stance of the ideal Niger Delta region.

At a conference of Ijaw Traditional Rulers and Elders in Yenagoa, which had the bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson in attendance, the call for restructuring took dominance at the meeting.

Another major concern of the Ijaw leaders that came to the fore at the meeting was the heavy military presence in the Niger Delta region.
