World number two, Rafael Nadal has pulled out of the Brisbane championship due to a left thigh strain.
The Spaniard wanted to play the warm-up event to the Australian Open but his doctors advised him not to after an MRI scan revealed the nature of the strain.
Nadal has been battling with injuries over the past five months, having missed the ATP Finals to have ankle surgery as well as battling abdominal muscle problems.
He also withdrew from an exhibition event last week in Abu Dhabi with a leg problem. Nadal is racing to be fit enough to compete at the Australian Open, which will begin on the 14th of January.
