The Benue State Government has acknowledged the receipt of 50 trucks of assorted relief materials from the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, for onward distribution to the state’s Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The State Governor, Samuel Ortom, disclosed this when he celebrated Christmas with the IDPs in their various camps.
He equally directed the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, to drill additional boreholes and periodically fumigate the camp environment.
For several of the displaced persons, this year’s Christmas is different largely because it is being spent out of their homes or comfort zone.
On a positive note, it is even more unique as they had the rare privilege of celebrating the birth of Christ with the Governor, who moved from camp to camp, Ugba then Logo, Daudu and ended at the Abagena camp.
The Chief Executive extended the same gesture to the Gbajimba camp IDPs on Christmas Eve.
While some enjoyed this uncommon privilege, hundreds of thousands in the countless unauthorized camps were not so fortunate.
