Vitaly Mutko quits role as president of Russian Football Union

Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Vitaly Mutko in an executive committee meeting of the Russian Football Union, resigned from his role as the president of the Russian Football Union after he was banned from the Olympics for life because of Russia’s doping scandals.

Mutko played an influential role in Russia’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup and was in charge of the preparations for years. Russian soccer league president, Sergey Pryadkin will serve as the acting president of the Russian Football Union.

Meanwhile, Mutko has appealed his ban by the IOC at CAS, though CAS is yet to set a hearing date.
