President Muhammadu Buhari has thrown his weight behind moves to institute reforms in the nation’s oil and gas industry but cautioned against hasty decisions to avoid negative outcomes.
The President’s position comes amid concerns over the delay in the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill by the National Assembly.
President Buhari spoke on Thursday when he received the newly inaugurated executives of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, at the State House, Abuja.
The oil and gas workers were in the Villa to raise some issues they consider critical to the survival of the sector.
They are among other things concerned about Nigeria’s continued importation of refined petroleum products, pipeline vandalism and disregard for the local content law by some multinational oil companies operating in the country.
President Buhari was later conferred with the title of Grand Comrade of NUPENG in recognition of his administration’s commitment to the growth of the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.
