The Kano State House of Assembly has mandated its legal committee to examine the investigative powers of the House.

This follows a recent State High Court order implying the assembly cannot investigate bribery video allegation against Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

At plenary on Monday with 14 members in attendance, the 40-member assembly asked the Committee to submit its report during next legislative sitting.

Last week, a State High Court ordered that the Assembly has no powers to investigate bribery video allegations leveled against the State Governor by an online medium.

An attempt by the Speaker of the House, Kabiru Rurum, to read a letter from the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rabiu Bichi, requesting him to confirm the status of Chief Whip and Minority Leader, generated arguments over the appropriateness of reading a communication from the PDP Chairman since a faction is challenging his position in a law court.

After heated debate, the Assembly mandated the legal committee to examine court cases involving the House and give recommendations.
