Thousands of lawyers under the umbrella of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, in Imo State, South East Nigeria, have marched around the major streets of Owerri, the state’s capital, to protest the gruesome murder of a senior magistrate in the area, Remigus Oguh.

The legal practitioners had boycotted court sittings in the state in solidarity with their slain member.

Over 5,000 lawyers displayed placards which read: “IG find the killers of R.C. Oguh now.

“We demand security for the courts and judges, protection for judges, magistrates”, among others.

The protesting legal practitioners matched to the office of the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Pascal Nnadi, before taking their protest to the office of the Commissioner of Police, State Director of the Department of State Services as well as the Imo State House of Assembly.

The aggrieved lawyers called on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to ensure that those behind the murder of the Chief Magistrate in Oru West Local Government Area of the state are arrested and made to account for the crime.

Chairman, Orlu branch of the NBA, Chuzzy Attama, lamented the poor security around courts in the state.

The NBA appealed to the Police authorities to direct the immediate provision of armed Police orderlies for all the judges and magistrates and at all court premises in Imo State.
