Chinese state media has mounted pressure on the Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen moments after her ruling pro-independence party lost the local elections this past weekend.

The state media noted that Beijing has pledged their allegiance to work with the newly elected officials.

Tsai had previously resigned as chairwoman of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) after losing major cities to the opposition Kuomintang.

The DPP now only controls only six cities while the Kuomintang controls 15.

Beijing has refused to cooperate with the Tsai’s administration ever since she assumed office in 2016, as a bias to accusations of her intentions to solicit for the island’s formal independence.

According to reports, this move is a red line for China, which takes heritage seriously and considers the island a sacred Chinese heritage.
