ATP Cup confirmed for January 2020 in Australia

The ATP has officially launched its new annual world team cup event called the ATP Cup, which will be held in Australia at the start of 2020.

The tournament will feature 24 nations in six groups of four nations each, it will be played across three cities from the 3rd of January and will last ten days.

Qualification for the tournament will be based on the ranking of the country’s number one player and will offer 750 ranking points along with a £11.35m Prize Money.

The ATP Cup will debut just six weeks after the International Tennis Federation’s revamped Davis Cup and with similarities of both events, there are concerns regards participation, sustainability and credibility of the events.

There is also the issue of players burning out as a result of the newly added event into an already congested ATP season that lasts 11 months.
