The Lance Armstrong doping scandal which the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) referred to as the “most sophisticated, professionalized and successful doping programme sport has ever seen” has had its final justice meted out.
Johan Bruyneel, Lance Armstrong’s former team manager has had his 10-year ban from cycling by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) extended to a lifetime ban by WADA. Team doctor, Pedro Celaya has also been banned for life for his involvement in the scandal.
Furthermore, team trainer Pepe Marti had his eight-year ban extended to 15 years while former Armstrong teammate, Floyd Landis who blew the whistle on the Postal Service team scandal and had his 2006 Tour de France title stripped off him, will receive $2.75m alongside his attorneys for their part of the bargain.
