Wolves to pay £15m Rui Patricio Compensation fee

Wolverhampton Wanderers are close to paying a compensation fee around £15m to Sporting Lisbon for goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

The Portuguese goalkeeper alongside eight other first-team players cancelled their contracts with Sporting Lisbon due to the crisis that rocked the club at the time, which included an attack on the team by masked intruders at the training ground.

Patricio subsequently signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers on a four-year deal.

Sporting Lisbon had antagonised the move, writing to FIFA, claiming that Patricio had breached his contract and they should be paid £50m in compensation.

Both clubs have, however, reached an agreement after lengthy talks.
