Lewis Hamilton secured pole position ahead of teammate Valtteri Bottas and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen for the Japanese Grand Prix.
It is the Englishman’s 80th pole position. The Ferraris made a costly error by deciding to go for wrong tyres which resulted in Kimi Raikkonen fourth and Sebastian Vettel ninth.
Both Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton have four wins in Japan and will be seeking a fifth at Suzuka. With five races remaining in the season, Hamilton leads the title race over Vettel with 50 points.
