England’s director of cricket, Andrew Strauss has stepped down from his role due to his wife’s health.
He had earlier taken a break from his role in May when his wife entered a new period of treatment for cancer, with Andy Flower covering for him. Strauss, in explaining the reason for his decision said, “Taking time out this summer to support my wife and kids, as Ruth goes through treatment for cancer, has given me the chance to fully consider what’s right for England and what’s needed at home”.
Andy Flower will take up his role on an interim basis till December, with a full-time replacement expected to be made in the New Year.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB)released a statement disclosing that Strauss will help ECB chief executive, Tom Harrison in the process of a smooth transition to his successor and take on a “flexible” position within the board – consultancy.
