A low-cost carrier that offered long-distance flights from UK airports earlier this year, has collapsed.

Primera Air announced an end to its operations at midnight on Monday after working for 14 years.

Flights to Washington and New York from Stansted on Monday night were prevented from taking off, and passengers were notified not to go to the airport the next day.

Meanwhile, one plane from Birmingham landed in Malaga on Monday evening.

The airline, which boasted of about 15 planes, flew Scandinavian holidaymakers to Spain, Greece, Italy, Egypt, and Turkey.
