The teenage daughter of a local Alternative for Germany (AfD) politician, Nicole Höchst, has caused controversy with her contribution to a poetry competition.

Ida Marie Müller, 14, performed a poem that was considered racist before an audience of 100 guests in Speyer, southwestern Germany, in the competition which targeted teenagers in an anti-racism initiative.

The poem which referenced a stabbing that was carried out by an immigrant earned her a disqualification by organizers despite the fact that she received the loudest applause.

Ms. Müller who was consequently excluded from the award ceremony was later accused by Mayor Monika Kabs, of the Christian Democrats (CDU) party, of using the event as an AfD platform.

Meanwhile, her mother who has been full of support for her daughter on social media posted pictures of the exterior of their home which had anti-AfD graffiti sprayed on it.

AfD is a far-right, anti-immigration party that got into the German parliament for the first time last year, by winning 12.6% of the vote and more than 90 seats.
