E-retailing giant, Amazon, is increasing the wages of hundreds of thousands of its staff in the U.S and the U.K.
Its staff in America will as a result receive $15 per hour, where the minimum wage is $7.25.
Their U.K colleagues will get £9.50, or £10.50 in London, with a minimum UK wage rate of £7.83 for those over 25 years of age, and £7.38 for those 21 to 24.
About 250,000 workers will benefit from this in the U.S, 17,000 in the U.K, and about 20,000 persons who are considered seasonal workers.
Amazon spokesman, Jay Carney, says the increase will take effect from November 1, as the company continues the press for an increase in the U.S minimum wage.
