The United States women’s basketball team continued their dominance of world basketball by winning the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup with a comprehensive victory over Australia in the final, 73-56.
The triumph over Australia stretched the Americans winning streak at the World Cup to 22 matches, it is their third consecutive World Cup title and the tenth in total. Brittney Griner led the scoring for the US women with 15 points, followed closely by Diana Taurasi with 13 points.
Breanna Stewart, the MVP of the tournament contributed 10 points.
In the third place match between host nation, Spain and Belgium, the Spaniards edged that 67-60 to clinch the bronze medal.
France topped China 81-67 to end up in the fifth position while Canada edged a keenly contested affair against Nigeria 73-72 to finish seventh.
