2018 Masters Champion, Patrick Reed has admitted that egos were part of the reasons the US lost the 2018 Ryder Cup to Team Europe.

Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth won four and halved two of seven matches together at Gleneagles and Hazeltine to form a formidable partnership but Reed blamed Jordan Spieth for the end of their successful Ryder Cup partnership, stating, “The issue’s obviously with Jordan not wanting to play with me, I don’t have any issue with Jordan.

When it comes right down to it, I don’t care if I like the person I’m paired with or if the person likes me as long as it works and it sets up the team for success.”

He was also critical of the US captain, Jim Furyk, for his “not smart” decision to leave him (Reed) out of two sessions – the foursomes sessions on Friday and that of Saturday – “For somebody as successful in the Ryder Cup as I am, I don’t think it’s smart to sit me twice.

Every day in the team room, I saw ‘Leave your egos at the door’.

They, the Europeans do that better than us.” The US lost the Ryder Cup title in humiliating fashion including the loss of the foursomes session 4-0 for the first time in Ryder Cup history.
