Nigeria: NASRDA identifies areas earthquake may occur

According to the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), some communities in four states and the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja) as likely to experience earthquakes.
NASRDA Director General, Professor Seidu Mohammed, said Mpape in Abuja, Kwoi in Kaduna, Ijebu-Ode in Ogun, Shaki in Oyo and Igbogene in Bayelsa are likely to be the epicenters of major earthquakes if safety measures are not put in place.
The DG said the high quantity of water (about 330 metric tonnes) taken out of at least 110,000 boreholes dug in Abuja contribute by worsening the situation in the capital city by straining the earth.
He, as a result, advised the Federal Government to regulate the drilling of boreholes.
