Legendary US swimmer and Olympic legend, Michael Phelps, has requested that more should be done to support Olympians after leaving the spotlight.
Speaking at a mental health conference, Phelps stressed the need for athletes to be looked after, as most of them struggle to adjust to life outside their fields.
Phelps who admitted in January, to contemplating suicide during his worst periods of depression has called on the leadership of sporting institutions to do more to “protect” athletes once they retire.
It can be recalled that Phelps had bouts of depression after the Olympic games of 2004, 2008 and 2012.
