The VAR was trialled in the EPL for the first time, involving five 3 pm matches on Saturday and reports indicate that the Premier League chiefs are delighted with the success of the trial.
The decision by officials to overrule Leroy Sane’s effort for offside would have been the only decision overturned by the VAR. The VAR trial did not involve communication with officials at the matches as it took place at the central VAR.
It will be recalled that in April, Premier League clubs voted against introducing the VAR for the 2018/2019 season. Like last season, it will be used in the FA and EFL Cup games but only those that occur at top-flight grounds.
