Surrey players call for a wicket

Surrey wrapped up its first County Championship title in sixteen years with two rounds to go, following a three-wicket victory over Worcestershire.

It was the Oval outfit’s ninth win in a row in the Championship, a record it last achieved in 1957; it means the team has now beaten all the sides in division one.

Surrey, which only needed to avoid defeat to be crowned champions, started on 70-0 and needed another 202 for victory.

Surrey skipper and opener, Rory Burns, improved his season run tally to 1,241 at an average of 68.94, thereby staking his claims for an inclusion into England’s tours to Sri Lanka and West Indies.

His sixth fifty of the campaign was enough to steer Surrey to the win.
