Newly crowned US Open champion Naomi Osaka, says she does not feel sad about the way her 6-2 6-4 win on Saturday was overshadowed by Serena Williams’ outbursts at the umpire.

The 20-year-old said, “For me, I don’t feel sad because I wouldn’t even know what I’m expected to feel, I don’t think I even thought about feeling sad because there’s no experience for me to draw on from any other Grand Slam final.”

The Japanese born athlete has now risen to seventh in the world rankings after winning her first Grand Slam title, this is the highest she has ever reached in her career.

She will compete at next week’s Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo and revealed that she plans to break into the top five this year, and win a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
