Former world number one and the four-time major winner, Rory Mcllroy has announced he will make his debut at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii to kick off his 2019 calendar.
The tournament is only for winners on the PGA tour of the previous year, Mcllroy has ignored the tourney on the six previous occasions he was eligible to play it but decided to play that of next year which will run from January 3rd to January 6th – his victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational secured his spot.
As it stands, 30 players are currently eligible to play the tournament following their various wins on the PGA Tour this year, the list can, however, grow pending those who win between now and the RSM Classic in November.
Recent champions of the event include Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth, both, major winners and rivals of Rory Mcllroy who will hope to win the tourney on his debut to kick off a trophy-laden 2019.
