Egypt has sentenced 75 people to death in a mass trial that involved seven hundred and thirty-nine people, including prominent Islamist leaders over a 2013 pro-Muslim Brotherhood sit-in which ended with the killings of protesters in support of former Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi.
The verdict by Judge Hassan Farid el-Shami was announced on Saturday in Cairo’s heavily fortified Tora prison courthouse.
Others tried in the case include Brotherhood spiritual leader Mohamed Badie and forty-six others were handed life sentences.
The trial has been condemned by Amnesty International as “a grotesque parody of justice”.
