There will be a trial run of the Virtual Assistant Referees, VAR, in the Premier League, which will commence after the international break, with fifteen matches involved in the testing.

The aim of the trial is for the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) to prove that the system is fit for use, and submit its findings to Premier League shareholders next year, for full introduction next season.

The first trial will involve five matches on the 15th of September, with the five matches scheduled for 3 pm kickoff.

Referees have been encouraged by the use of the technology at recent EFL Cup games. VAR is also due to be tested during selected FA Cup ties this season.
