Reports in the Spanish media have revealed that Girona’s home game against Barcelona on the 27th of January, 2019 will be played at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
La Liga has announced plans to subsidize travel and accommodation for home season ticket holders, while other fans will be compensated for missing out on a home match. Part of the plans for subsidizing travel expenses is the provision of 1,500 free flights, which will be laid on for season ticket holders of both clubs, and it will be secured with a €500 deposit that will be returned after the trip. There will also be subsidized overnight accommodation available for fans.
There will be a possible provision of 5,000 free tickets available for the away trip, should home fans refuse to travel to the US, and a 20% refund on the price of their season tickets, with a 40% refund on season tickets, should they choose not to show up for reverse fixtures.
Should the Girona versus Barcelona match go ahead in the US, Girona stands to make up to €4million while Barcelona will make a whole lot more than that.
