Libya’s media is reporting that a ceasefire has been agreed following clashes between rival militias in the southern suburbs of Libya’s capital, Tripoli.
Abdelsalam Ashor, the interior minister of the UN-backed government, told a television station that an armed group fighting against militias affiliated to his government would hand over its positions; but there are reported violations of the ceasefire already.
According to the health ministry, five people were killed and dozens more wounded.
Since Col. Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown in 2011, Libya has had several rival governments and dozens of militias operate across the country.
