Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State has asked the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo to sack Ibrahim Magu, the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following the freezing of bank accounts belonging to Akwa Ibom and Benue state governments respectively.

Government activities have been crippled in the states as a result of the action of the EFCC against the two state. The restrictions on the accounts were lifted as many Nigerians condemned EFCC’s action.

According to a Government House press statement, the governor said to journalists

“I am calling for the sack of the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr Ibrahim Magu, for overthrowing a tiered government.

The mere fact that the two accounts have been re-opened does not mean that a crime was not committed,” He also charged the Nigeria Governors Forum to defend the independence of states.
