Senator Godswill Akpabio has laid rest to days of speculation as he formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress -APC at a mega rally held at the Ikot Ekpene township stadium in Akwa Ibom State.
The senator who was received by some thirty APC Senators and members of the party’s National Working Committee told the gathering that he was taking the state to the centre.
The majority leader of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, who spoke at the rally said Akpabio’s defection has shaken the opposition Peoples Democratic Party –PDP.
According to him, despite PDP’s dogged efforts to stop his defection, the man he described as a nationalist who believes in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari ignored them.
The 55-year-old Akpabio who is lawyer and politician has previously served as Governor of Akwa Ibom State from May 29, 2007, to May 29, 2015.
