The Kogi State Police Command has summoned Senator Dino Melaye to report at the State Criminal and Investigation Department after his armed guards fired on a team of policemen on patrol duties. One police sergeant was hospitalized after the incident.

A statement signed by the command’s PRO, William Ovye Aya asked Melaye to show up with his armed guards as investigations commence. The statement refuted Melaye’s allegation that he was shot at by the officers.

The PRO said, on the contrary, Melaye’s armed guards opened fire first and the Police only acted in self-defence.

The senator representing Kogi West had earlier taken to social media to say the police tried to block his convoy with a grader parked on a bridge on his way to Yagba east to commission some projects.

He also alleged that an attempt was made on his life during the visit to his state. According to him, 20 bullets were fired at his jeep.
