Mexican President-elect Andres Obrador says he will slash his salary and that of high-level officials as part of austerity measures by the government.
Speaking outside his campaign headquarters, Obrador also said he would raise the national minimum wage in order to spread the budget to every citizen.
The president-elect also recently announced that he was cancelling the generous pensions paid to former presidents as well as bonuses and fringe benefits provided to lawmakers and other officials.
The austerity plan aims to redirect some 500 billion pesos -about 26.4 billion dollars- a year towards welfare and development programmes.
